Last spring or sometime around then both my knees started acting up-bad. So I started taking time off and doing alternative workouts only to find that my knees were still not right. It was a really hard summer because I’d still go to the gym with this feeling that every part of me could run miles and miles except for my knees. Between my having to work later and Christmas I took about 2 months off almost all activity and I’m starting to think it was worth it. I went back to the gym and finally I’m running again. It’s hard to just come back slow but I’m hoping that the end of this summer to run a 5K. The knees will decide.

Since you have access to a gym, make sure you add a bit of weight lifting to your routine. There are certain strengthening exercises for the quadriceps and hamstrings that are indispensable for runners with knee problems. Annie & I have both struggled with this (she even more than I), so please feel free to call for tips or just to vent about the extreme frustration of uncooperative body parts!
