I am currently working on a new series of watercolor paintings based on nature. The idea needs some work but I’ve been doing quite a bit of research about biology, chemistry and patterns. I seem to keep lists of words that relate to my ideas. The current one reads: patterns, sashiko, cells, animals, photosynthesis, symbiosis, fish, plants, flowers, bees, heart, elements, electrons, atoms, biology, chemistry, mystery, mechanism, living, and vitalism. I’m interested in extremely structured paintings as well as field studies and science text books. Rothko, Japanese hanging scrolls, John James Audubon biography and prints are a few places I’ve gotten ideas. The painting here is unfinished and is the first. I feel as though I have developed my concept so much more since I started it that it may not be finished I will move on to others and return to it if I feel the need. Click on it to see it larger.
