Luke and I went on a trip earlier this summer to Grand Canyon– while we were gone a wonderul lady named Marlene checked on our cat children. It’s really hard to figure out what to get people who do that special task while you’re away. She said she didn’t want money– which I can understand. I usually try to figure out something related to our trip and this time it was a painting:

Luke and I are back from our week long cross country trip to Grand Canyon. It was a great time and absolutley beautiful out there but I’m glad to be home. The desert is one of my favorite places but I think I missed the shade trees.

We stayed in Tusayan, AZ just a couple miles from the Grand Canyon National Park.

My favorite thing we did out there was get up early for the sunrise. The sunset is pretty and all but I really think it’s the sunrise that’s best. Perhaps it has something to do with there being fewer people and kids running around. It seemed every evening stressed out parents and annoying kids would break the “mood” of the scenery. So I highly recommend getting up before the break of dawn and heading to the rim.

To me it’s amazing how many people we see almost everyday but never speak to. Â So it was nice to finally break the ice with a few familiar faces.

Summer is around the corner and so are all those 5ks and more. With running comes knee problems too.

I’ve been cross training to prevent and to slow down some wear and tear on my knees but I’m not confident that my ways are truly protecting my knees. I’m pretty sure I’ve got Illiotibial Band Syndrome and sciatica. Stretching better and reducing running speed has helped tremendously but I’m still not sure it’s enough. I want to keep running but I don’t want to get hurt. No amount of running is worth a life time of pain or injury.

So I plan to add to my blog this summer how I work these problems out. I foresee the swimming pool being my best option to get in training without injury. Only this summer will tell.

Luke and I are really hopeful that we will be moving in May. We’re waiting to hear from the college as to whether or not we can move into one of the campus houses. It would mean that we might save a little money in the coming year. Recently we’ve come to the conclusion that our street is getting uncomfortable– between the rowdy students and the Speedway crowd it not fun any more.

The other night Luke caught some guy opening our car door. Of course lesson learned about the one time we didn’t lock it. Never caught the guy but didn’t find anything missing either. Strange. Needless to say we were spooked pretty good.

So hopefully soon we will hear and until then we’ll continue to check all doors, windows and the car locks.
