Fiber Art

Right now I would really like to devout more time to working on a body of fiber work. Between all my daily responsibilities and other projects  I have found it difficult to spend serious time on building ideas/concepts and producing work. I’m hoping to finish up some other projects within this month so I can focus better on creating something new.

This summer I have taken up running in the mornings and have found myself faced with many beautiful sunrises. While running I get a lot of time to contemplate… well… time. I’m specifically interested in the idea of “Day and Night” and “Night and Day”. Questions I find myself addressing are: When does day start/end? When does night begin/end? Thousands of years ago man did not have a watch or clocks and the concept of time, I imagine, was much different. Other questions, that while I may not address, that I feel are important are: How does time change? How does time change with the seasons? Where does the earth meet the sky/sky meet the earth?

I’ve decided to start working with shibori and would like to explore other dyeing methods to represent horizons. earth, sky, sun, stars, moon, constellations, aurora lights and more. I’m planning to play with beading, embroidery, printing, stamping and layering of materials. Here is a piece I just finished dyeing and plan on working out further: In the detail shot I was interested in colors mixing.
